This is my favorite book from my favorite book series. It's about the power of reading and writing, so as someone who writes a lot, it has a pretty engaging subject, in my opinion. I read the first book in the series, Inkheart, when I was in middle school. I've reread all three books in the trilogy at least twice, probably more. The series is pretty nostalgic to me.

This is a comic book written by one of my favorite musicians, Gerard Way. It continues the story of the fourth album by My Chemical Romance, of which he was once the vocalist before they broke up. I like comics a lot, and I think Gerard Way is very good at writing them. This comic, like the album to which it's a sequel, is all about the need for independence and change. In fact, I'd say that's the common message throughout much of MCR, which, aside from the musical talent, is part of why I like them so much.
This is a spaceship I made of Legos when I was in elementary or middle school (I forget). I used to be very invested in Legos, especially the Bionicle line, and would often come up with my own things to build. In a sense, this spaceship is physical evidence of my early creative output. It also represents some of my early interest in science fiction; while I mostly prefer fantasy and horror, sci-fi has increasingly factored into my tastes. I don't know if I would have gotten into the genre as much if I hadn't been at least a little interested when I was younger.
This is a carnival mask spray-painted black. I wore it as part of a plague doctor outfit for Halloween, and to a fantasy conference called Mythcon. I've attended Mythcon with my grandma at least four times now, and I enjoy it a lot. My grandma is a pretty cool person who enjoys a lot of the same things as me, like history and literature, so this mask has good memories by proxy. I also just like spooky stuff, like plague doctors.
This is a sketchbook from when I was in middle school. I've been drawing for about as long as I can remember, but middle school is when I first started drawing regularly, so it represents a lot of my improvement from crazy scribbling. Improvement is one of the most important parts of being an artist, and I find that I improve constantly. My art is better now than it was even as recently as October. But as much as I've changed, both as a person and as an artist, since middle school, a solid foundation is still critical to being able to get better, and this represents the building of that foundation.
